Description
Bricker & Mellowe was an English tailor located close to Savile Row in the Mayfair area of London, from 1940 to 2002. Created by former cutters of Hawkes of Savile Row (now Gieves & Hawkes) in 1940, Bricker & Mellowe was a small operation that made beautiful suits, jackets and coats in the classical English cut. Their shoulder was quite soft compared to Huntsman & Sons or Henry Poole, with a slightly roped sleevehead. The chest was cut close, with a very light drape, and the sleeve was relatively narrow, but still rounded enough to move easily. It is an excellent blend between Gieves & Hawkes and Anderson & Sheppard respective styles. In the 1980's, they partnered with Benson, Perry & Whitley, located on Cork Street in the same building as the famous shoemaker George Cleverley. Benson, Perry & Whitley were known as the official tailor of Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond novels, as well as David Niven, known for classic Hollywood pictures such as the Pink Panther and the Guns of Navarone. His tailor was notably known for making a rather original midnight blue double-breasted Victorian morning suit for him in the 1967 James Bond film Casino Royale. During the 1990's, Bricker & Mellowe moved to 6 Sackville Street, in the same building as Meyer & Mortimer, one of the oldest tailors still in activity. Bricker & Mellowe unfortunately closed in 2002, with most of the workers joining other tailoring houses. I propose a beautiful Bricker & Mellowe brown cashmere jacket, with a striking pattern: a bold red and thin blue windowpane, similar to certain creations by Huntsman & Sons. It is a classic countryside jacket, ideal from autumn to spring, that can be worn in the same way as a tweed jacket (with corduroy or flannel trousers, even jeans, in a variety of colours). The cashmere is warm without being heavy. Made in 1995, it belonged to the owner of Hobbs Cashmere, a luxury cashmere house of the same quality as Brunello Cucinelli and Loro Piana. As always with Bricker & Mellowe, it is fully handmade, from the lining to the buttonholes, from the shoulder to the collar. The condition is excellent. The jacket is best fitted for someone with a strong 38UK /40FR size, or a slim 40UK/50FR size, around 1m75 to 1m80 tall. Here are the measurements Shoulders: 47cm Sleeve length: 57cm (with 4cm of fabric to let out) Chest: 50cm Waist at button: 50cm Jacket length: 77cm (collar included , with 4cm of fabric to let out) Lapels: 9cm Quality similar to the following bespoke houses: - In France: Camps de Luca, Cifonelli, Francesco Smalto, Claude Rousseau, Arnys, Lanvin Mesure, Henri Urban, Max Evzeline, Opelka, Kenjiro Suzuki - In Italy: Caraceni (Augusto or Domenico), Rubinacci, Dalcuore, Panico - In England: Anderson & Sheppard, Henry Poole, Huntsman & Sons, Nutters of Savile Row, Chittleborough & Morgan, Richard Anderson, Meyer & Mortimer Possible to try it in Paris 15th Arrondissement.
